July 2015:
The end of a contract job has come and its time to PLAY PLAY PLAY! In a whirlwind week of moving out of a rented house, packing everything into a 8X10 storage unit, and frantically planning the next several months I embarked on what could become one of the most free and unburdened experiences of my life.
I packed my car wall to wall with sporting equipment for the coming adventures (canyons, mountains, backpacking, travel, travel, travel) and set sail for the Pacific Northwest. I arrived in the middle of the night at one of two odd little condos rented by the crew and caught only a few hours of sleep before the big kickoff of Summer 2015.
Over the coming days we played, and played hard. We descended into some magical places in the Squamish & greater Vancouver area that a very select few ever get to experience. Interestingly, our adventures were never hampered by weather but rather on day 2 smoke from the fires raging on nearby Vancouver Island drifted in, and health advisories with them. Frankly, we were all there to canyon hard and even if it was equivalent to smoking 2 packs a day we were determined to explore this amazing place. In the end, British Columbia was a FANTASTIC kickoff to my summer of adventure and proved to me that BC has some fantastic canyoning.
