Thanks to fortunate contacts that I made back in May down on a last minute canyoneering trip to Zion NP, I received an invite to an event titled “Gorging Cubed” in which a group of canyoneers (including those I met in Zion the previous Spring) were forming a rendezvous in the Portland area for a week and a half of serious canyoneering. Unfortunately my work schedule only permitted my attendance on one weekend of the entire event. After some schedule trade shenanigans (thanks colleagues!), Andrea/Josh/& I departed Bellingham at 8:30pm, drove all night, and arrived in Portland at 2:00am on Saturday (now only 7 short hours before we were supposed to meet up with the group for the morning.
GREAT weekend of Canyoneering!!!! It was fantastic to meet up with Zion friends and meet a whole gang of terrific new people from the California area. Canyon networking???? …I guess you could call it that.
After descending Eagle Creek on Saturday Josh and I returned for dinner, socialization, & a nice slice of floor to crash on at the condo that the group had been renting.
Oneonta Gorge & a quick descent of Latourell Falls (225′!!!). Lots of water and even more fun!
